TEHRAN (NIPNA) -- The State Oil Company of Azerbaijan (SOCAR) is mulling investment in Iran's Tabriz Petrochemical Complex, an official with the company said.

Ali Asqar Taheri told NIPNA on the sidelines of the 22nd Iran International Oil, Gas, Refining and Petrochemical Exhibition (Iran Oil Show-2017) that his company has partaken in the past 6 editions of the showcase and has a 9-year history in activities in Iran.

He said SOCAR is currently in talks with Parsian Oil and Gas Company for investing in several petrochemical projects in Iran.

He further said the Azeri company is also considering financing projects at Tabriz petrochemical and refining facilities.

"We have so far held numerous rounds of talks with the Iranian companies; provided that SOCAR will be able to secure shares in these projects, it will be playing a key role in their development," Taheri added.

SOCAR began importing petrochemical from Iran last year and is planning to boost its purchases from Iran.

The company will supply world markets Iranian products through its subsidiary, SOCAR Trading, he added.

He also said SOCAR Polymer is to send two special grades of high density polyethylene and polypropylene to the Iranian market.

The showcase is being held with 4,000 exhibitors from across the globe running 1,800 pavilions.

1,016 pavilions are representing 2,500 Iranian firms while 811 other pavilions represent nearly 1,500 foreign companies from 37 countries.

Exhibitors from China, Germany, France, Italy, Spain, Turkey, Russia, Japan, Austria, South Korea, the US, and Australia are running stalls at the 4-day showcase.
