TEHRAN (NIPNA) -- Iran is set to reach self-sufficiency in production of petrol as two domestic petrochemical companies have proved capable of supplying relevant catalysts for petrol production.

The Supplying Petrochemical Industries Part Equipment and Chemical Engineering Company (SPEC) closed ranks with Exir Novin Farayand Asia Company to supply catalysts for production of petrol to several refineries in the country.
Last week, Iran launched phase one of Bandar Abbas Gas Condensate Refinery (BAGCR) which, once fully operational, will add 12 million liters of petrol to the country’s daily production capacity, rendering the country self-sufficient in petrol production.
Besides BAGCR, SPEC and Exir Novin supply catalysts to Isfahan Refinery and continuous catalytic regeneration (CCR) unit of Tehran Refinery.
Supply of the catalysts was denied by foreign companies to Iran thanks to the US-led sanctions on Tehran’s nuclear program.
Production of the catalysts was made possible by the support of the National Petrochemical Company (NPC), Persian Gulf Star Oil Refining Company and the research and engineering department of the Iranian Ministry of Petroleum.
