TEHRAN (NIPNA) -- The ethylene production of Kavian Petrochemical Plant, supplier of feedstock to the West Ethylene Pipeline, is rising as new phases of the supergiant South Pars Gas Field have become operational recently.

Ramezan Owladi, managing director of the facility, has said the plant is ready to boost its output provided that it receives more feedstock from the gas field which Iran shares with Qatar in Persian Gulf.

Kavian Petrochemical Plant supplies ethylene to the West Ethylene Pipeline which delivers feedstock to 12 petrochemical plants along its path that stretches from southern Iran northwestern province of Azarbaijan Gharbi.

Owladi said his company has produced over 817,000 tons of ethylene in two of its phases, of which 770,000 tons has been injected to the pipeline and the rest is stored for various purposes.

1,700 km of the West Ethylene Pipeline is now operational.

Each phase of the Kavian Petrochemical Plant can supply one million tons of ethylene annually by receiving 1.25mt/y.

The ethane recovered from South Pars phases 4, 5, 9, 10, 15, 16, 17 and 18 are fed to KPP which is now operational at 60% of its nameplate capacity.

Once phase 19, 20 and 21 of the supergiant gas field come online, more feedstock will become available to the plant, said Owladi.
