TEHRAN (NIPNA) -- A senior petrochemical official says the p-Xylene unit of Bou Ali Petrochemical Plant will become operational in a matter of two years.

Managing Director of the Persian Gulf Petrochemical Industries Company (PGPIC) Adel Nejad Salim said talks are under way with the unit's licensor, saying the unit is expected to become operational in two years.

Located at the heart of Mahshahr petrochemical zone in southwestern Iran, the unit was hit by a blaze that gripped the facility in July 2016.

The damage caused by the blaze has not undermined PGPIC's coffers, said the official.

He also said that plans are under way to restore the operation of damaged units after fixing them.

The unit is being repaired because it supplied the feedstock for Tondgouyan Petrochemical Plant which is being supplied by Borzooyeh Plant currently.
