TEHRAN (NIPNA) -- Iran is developing new petrochemical projects in the western cities of Sanandaj and Mahabad that will create new downstream petrochemical hubs in western Iran.

Ali Mohammad Bossaqzadeh, director of production control at National Petrochemical Company (NPC), told NIPNA that construction of the projects will generate jobs in western cities and reduce sale of crude oil and gas for the country.

He underlined the significance of balanced growth of the petrochemical industry in all its sectors, saying that NPC is seeking to develop mid-stream projects in the country.

The Iranian government has planned to construct or allow construction of downstream projects near mid-stream petrochemical projects so that more jobs can be generated and end-used items are produced domestically, he added.

He also expressed optimism that once new development projects in western parts of the country reach fruition, the economy of western provinces will be transformed in the near future.

A number of petrochemical projects are scheduled to come on-stream by March, end of the Iranian calendar year.

Kurdistan Petrochemical Plant is one of the projects that will come on-stream by the yearend. The project is to be fed by the West Ethylene Pipeline.
