TEHRAN (NIPNA) -- Iran is currently supplying 50 million cubic meters of gas to petrochemical plants during the cold that has gripped many parts of the country.

Iran has privatized its petrochemical industry but the government has retained a monopoly in feedstock supply to petrochemical facilities.

During this winter, and despite a cold snap that clouted most parts of the country in recent days, petrochemical facilities received an average of 46.5 million cubic meters per day last week.

The supplies reached 50 mcm/d on Friday despite the penetrating cold in the country.

This is while Turkmenistan has stopped supplying northern Iranian provinces with gas since January 1.

Iran is consuming over 700 mcm/d domestically of which less than 10 mcm/d was supplied by Turkmenistan.

The country severed gas flow to Iran demanding that Tehran must settle its debts to Ashgabat.
