TEHRAN (NIPNA) -- Construction of Lordegan Petrochemical Project has made 56% progress so far. The plant is expected to come on-stream by mid-2018.

The facility is being developed for production of 1.073mt/y of urea and 677,000 tons per year of ammonia.

To be fed by natural gas, the ammonia unit of the plant has been licensed by the Swiss Ammonia Casale while Stamicarbon has vowed to provide the technologies needed for construction of the plant's urea unit.

Lordegan Petrochemical Plant is being developed in an area of 300 hectares in Lordegan city in the western province of Charmahal Bakhtiari.

Financed by a Chinese financier, the project is 15% owned by its stockholder and 85% by the Chinese financier.

The complex comprises ammonia and urea plants and all other facilities and units including power and steam generation units, cooling water system, water treatment plant, sewage treatment plant, nitrogen plant, natural gas pressure reduction unit & distribution system, administrative building, canteen, services, warehouses and workshops.

Once operational, the plant will supply 1.073 million tons of petrochemicals annually of which 30% will be consumed domestically and the rest will be sent over to international markets.

Globally, approximately 88% of ammonia is used as fertilizers either as its salts, solutions or anhydrously.
