TEHRAN (NIPNA) -- Iran will launch a new petrochemical project in Kurdistan region by the end of the current Iranian calendar year to March 20.

Managing director of Kurdistan Petrochemical Plant Fereydoon Khaledzadeh said the project will become operational by the calendar yearend, saying the project is progressing without any serious trouble and its pre-startup operations are being carried out as planned.

Speaking to NIPNA, he said the project is being completed for production of 300,000 tons/year of light density polyethylene of which 70% will be exported and the rest sold on the domestic markets provided that there are customers for the products inside the country.

The project is built on 129 hectares of land in the western province of Kurdistan with an investment of €253m.

The project is one of the 12 plants to be fed by the West Ethylene Pipeline that carried ethylene from Kavian Petrochemical Plant, southern Iran, to western territories of the country to Tabriz Petrochemical Complex in northwestern Iran.
