TEHRAN (NIPNA) -- The managing director of Mahabad Petrochemical Plant said it is about to launch the facility's second reactor that will bring its annual output from currently 160,000 tons to 300,000 tons.

Speaking to NINPA, Mohsen Majidi said the plant is currently supplying 20 tons of products per hour which hits 13,000 to 14,000 per month and 160,000 tons per year.

He said the plant's production capacity will jump from 27 tons per hour to 37 tons per hour once the second reactor comes online.

Majidi said the second reactor will become operational within a month.

The facility came on-stream earlier this year by Iranian President Hassan Rouhani.

Development of Mahabad petrochemical plant was considered as a chief plan by the Iranian Ministry of Petroleum ever since it envisaged construction of West Ethylene Pipeline project.

West Ethylene Pipeline's design and construction was put forth by the ministry in 2002 under the administration of reform, and the project is aimed at developing petrochemical industries in Kurdish regions in western Iran.
