TEHRAN (NIPNA) -- Bushehr Petrochemical Plant is planning to export 60% of its output to international markets once it becomes operational.

Abdolreza Idani, director of the project’s construction and installation, has told NIPNA that the plant is being constructed for production of 5 million tons/year of different products including sulfur, ethylene, polyethylene, methanol, acetic acid, ethylene glycol and vinyl acetate monomer (VAM).

Construction of the facility, located at Pars Special Energy Economic Zone in Asaluyeh County, southern Iran, began in 2010 with €1.9bn of investment.

The project is owned by Sata Investment Company (60%) and Maroon Petrochemical Company (40%).

Fed by 2,400,000 tons of sour gas from South Pars phases 6, 7 and 8, the plant will supply petrochemical in three sites; olefin, ethylene glycol, dense polyethylene, and acetic acid units will be located in the first site of the facility. Ethane and methanol recycling units will be located in the second site of the plant and sweetening and sulfur units will be located in the third site of the plant.

The projects is expected to start early production by mid-2017.
