TEHRAN (NIPNA) -- Takht Jamshid Petrochemical Pars Assaluyeh Company has supplied over 7,000 tons of petrochemical to domestic and international markets since its inauguration two months ago.

Speaking during a visit to the plant by Managing Director of the National Petrochemical Company (NPC) Marziyeh Shahdaei, the plant’s CEO Mohammad Reza Akhavan said TJPPAC has so far provided 7,300 tons of petrochemical products since its inauguration two months ago.

He said the company has exported 1,200 tons of its product to China and India.

Akahvan said the plant has devised several development projects which will be constructed in the future.

Construction of the facility, as a leading supplied of polystyrene, began in 2013 at Mahshahr Petrochemical Especial Economic Zone in the southwestern province of Khuzestan.

Once fully operational, the plant will supply 65,000 tons of GPPD, XPS and HIPS as well as 120,000 tons of EPS.

Polystyrene (PS) is a synthetic aromatic polymer made from the monomer styrene. Polystyrene can be solid or foamed.

General-purpose polystyrene is clear, hard, and rather brittle. It is an inexpensive resin per unit weight. It is a rather poor barrier to oxygen and water vapor and has a relatively low melting point.

Polystyrene is one of the most widely used plastics, the scale of its production being several million tons per year. Polystyrene can be naturally transparent, but can be colored with colorants.

Uses include protective packaging (such as packing peanuts and CD and DVD cases), containers (such as "clamshells"), lids, bottles, trays, tumblers, and disposable cutlery.
