TEHRAN (NIPNA) – Private sector developers have signed 14 memoranda of understanding for developing petrochemical facilities in the southwestern province of Khuzestan.

The deals were all signed with the petrochemical companies operating at Mahshahr Petrochemical Special Economic Zone (PETZONE), said the complex’s managing director.

Omid Shahidinia said the deals concern upstream, midstream and downstream projects at the complex.

He said some of the MoUs concerned methanol projects with an estimated value of $2bn by the private sector.

All the deals were valued at IRR73,500bn which will all be carried out by the private sector and will generate jobs for 2,200 people, he added.

Once operational, the projects will add 2.250 million tons of petrochemicals to the country’s total annual output.

He also said most of the MoUs concern downstream projects, adding 121 other projects are being studies for development in the complex as well.
