TEHRAN (NIPNA) -- The Managing Director Qeshm Free Area Organization Hamid Reza Momeni said Qeshm Island can become a petrochemical hub in Iran with a production capacity of 6 million tons of products annually.

Addressing a ceremony held on Sunday to sign a memorandum of understanding between the QFAO and the National Petrochemical Company (NPC) for developing petrochemical plants in the island, Hamid Reza Momeni said petrochemical industries can develop in the island given the fact that the zone enjoys the required infrastructures for development of petrochemical facilities.

He said permits for construction of three petrochemical plants have been obtained so far in the island, adding the island is bracing for absorption of new investments for development of petrochemical units.

He said the organization is ready to introduce the island as an energy hub in Iran by developing the required infrastructures.

Momeni said the island enjoys vast potentialities for becoming a new petrochemical hub in Iran.
