TEHRAN (NIPNA) -- The export of petrochemicals from the plants operating at the Pars Special Economic Energy Zone (PSEEZ) have raised their exports by 18% in the first 7 months of the current Iranian calendar year which began on March 20 from the same period last year, customers data showed.

Speaking to NIPNA, Mohammad Mahdi Mahdavi, caretaker of the customs administration of the PSEEZ, said non-oil exports from the complex reached 9.6 million tons amounting to $5 billion in the period.

He said the figure is expected to cross $10b by the end of the year to March 21, given the fact that the barriers to export of goods and transacting with foreign customers have been eased by the gradual removal of the international sanctions on Tehran’s nuclear agenda.

Mahdavi underlined the supply of more feedstock to petrochemical facilities in the zone thanks to inauguration of new phases of the supergiant South Pars gas field in Persian Gulf in the current year, and added that 15 new plants are being constructed in the region that will add to PSEEZ’s total output.

The official also expressed hope that given the upward trend of petrochemical activities in the region, export of petrochemical will hit 15 million tons per year.

He also said that the data suggests that export of non-oil items will supersede oil exports in PSEEZ this year.
