TEHRAN (NIPNA) -- Iran's petrochemical production capacity stands at 38% of the Middle East and 4.8% of the world, Managing Director of National Petrochemical Company (NPC) Marziyeh Shahdaei says.

Addressing an oil and gas congress here in Tehran, Shahdaei said the share can grow even bigger once Iran launches new projects in the near future.

She said Iran's petrochemical production capacity will hit 63 million tons per year, adding the amount can hit 130 mt/y by 2020 and 180 mt/y by 2025.

She also said Iran's exports will hit 65.2 mt/y by 2020.

Marziyeh Shahdaei, who is also deputy petroleum minister in petrochemical affairs, added that economic diversity, skilled human resources, growing domestic market, exceptional geographic situation and access to abundant feedstock supplies are some of the advantages of investing in Iran's petrochemical sector.
